Dave was unable to do any scrollsaw work until into the second week of February. He had to undergo surgery 12/2/09 to repair the painful, right-hand thumb joint deterioration problem that had plagued him for several years.  The first thing he tried was valentine for his wife.  He is trying new things as the ideas come to mind.

BY COOL WATER

This 12" x 5 1/2" Wall Hanging is Dave's first attempt at an original, free-hand design.  For this stylized piece, he used a board of lighter colored wood that Steve sent him to try.  He backed the work with a Black Walnut board.  Out of scrap wood he cut and shaped with his flexible shaft tool, the stream bank edging and the rocks glued in the stream bed.  Bits of twig were added to represent logs that had washed down stream .  The darker blue wall color paint used for our livingroom makeover was used for the water.  He used felt tip pen accents on both the evergreen and bare limb trees, as well as on the stream bank raised edging.
