Recently, Dave decided his Artwork needed a name attached, and thought the name above might be appropriate.  Here you will start to view Dave's various Creative Artwork Gallery Pages.  Featured on this page will be a few of the most recently completed Artwork pieces.  The most current one appears first, then on down in order to earlier ones.  As a new Piece is added at the top, the last one on this page will move to the appropriate subject/type page.  Links to All Previous Artwork Pages can be found at the bottom of this page.
Dave does do custom pieces upon request - for a price quote for a requested pattern, send Dave an e-mail at this address, and put Commission Work in the subject line...

DRAGONFLY

I created this piece for my wife, Phoebe.  The wood used was a piece made of book-matched, glued together Black Locust boards our son Steve made up for me.  I placed the wood grain inline with the outstretched wings.  The work is finished with Tung Oil.
We modified the pattern slightly by adding a couple more grass blades to the group above the Dragonfly's left wing to balance the work.  A flat mounting was used so the work would lay against the wall surface, letting the paint color show through the open areas.
The finished work is 9 1/2" wide by 9" High by 1/4" Thick.

BIG HORN RAM

Dave considers this to be the most difficult pattern he has worked with so far, due to the more intricate cuts to create the overall look.  The original pattern is an oval shape, but the gentleman he did the piece for wanted the Ram to be a free standing subject he could put on his fireplace mantle, rather than wall mounted.  Dave simply added an extended tab, so it could be mounted in a 1 1/4" block of Black Walnut.
The wood used for the Ram is a piece of lovely grained 5/16" board made from two match-booked pieces of  Maple.  The finished work is 10" wide by 8" tall overall including the stand block.  The piece is finished with a light coating of Tung Oil.

TWO VERSIONS OF THE LAST SUPPER

Shown above, left is the second addition of the Last Supper that Dave has created.  It is somewhat larger that the first addition -  right.  In the first one, Dave reduced the size of the pattern somewhat so it would fit nicely on the 12" wide backer board.  In the second, he cut the pattern right to the limits of a 12" wide piece of wood, then mounted it on a larger backer board.  He also added the half-circle halo above the representation of Jesus.  This touch was quite effective as the wood piece for the halo had a circular grain.  The lighter wood used for the pattern, mounted on the darker stained backer board, created an entirely different look.
