What is a tessellation?
Well, the best answers come from an Internet Search,
here's a good place to start
However, a quickie answer to the question would be that
a tessellation is basically a tile or mosaic. Some
interlock without being rotated (Figure B), some have 90 degree rotational
symmetry, some have 120 or 180 degree, and some have 60 degree
symmetry (Figure C). Anything less and you are running out of room.
More than one
shape can tile together and sometimes they can lock together in
unexpected ways...
