| Position: |
Layout/ Fitter/ Weldor/
Fabricator |
| Duties: |
1. guide the crew, usually 1 or 2 guys
2. Receive and assimilate engineering drawings from customers. Often
I will submit shop drawings to clients like Rimmer and Roeter, Hale and
Long. I will also do a steel take off to submit to my employer for
bidding purposes.
3. Design and fabricate straight and spiral stairways. a good
straight example would be the stairway in Contodda's no prop boat shop.
Armed with my field measurements and some parameters from the general, I
designed and executed one stair with mid landing 90 degree left turn.
This is one of many stairs I have designed. I have also designed and
executed two spiral stairways, roughly 360 degrees for residential
customers, with the aid of an Excell spreadsheet program
4. Fabricate structural steel and handrail. A high point would be the
fabrication of a 3 story machine tower w/ penthouse roof installed at
tree top, olds station plant by CC and D construction. For the tower, I
was only supplied with beam sizes and work point dimensions. No
connections were detailed. In leiu of shop drawings, I opted to detail
the job out on the steel itself, as I also had time constraints. all
levels were dummy assembled before the whole mess went to galvanize.
needless to say, they erected it without a hitch
5. produce shop drawings and fabricate catwalk systems for apple
packing plants. I have detailed out four separate plants, entirely from
one 1/8"=12" 7 color cad drawing. the catwalk was there, but
it was up to me to detail sections, tees, breaks, stairways and
platforms, in essence producing shop drawings for me and my crew for an
entire plant
