SNOWY OWL
This pattern is copyrighted by Jacob
and Wayne Fowler. This bold looking piece, shown from both sides, is suitable
for display on desk, mantle, bookshelf, or just about anywhere, especially if
back lite. Notice how the growth rings in the wood seem to accent the
bird's overall body shape.
The dimensions of the bird are 10" high by 6" wide
due to his erect stance on his perch. The stand makes it an additional 1
1/4" higher, with a base depth of 4 1/2" by a base width 8 1/2".
The wood used for this particular bird is a 5/8"
thick piece of nicely grained bias cut Apple Wood. The bird is screwed
onto a unique, irregularly shaped base made from a single 5/8" thick piece
of straight grained Red Oak. The two-step height is achieved by carefully
cutting the inner irregular shape, then fitting it down approximately 1/8"
into the outer section before super gluing it in place.
This piece was given as a gift by the artist to his
mother, Phoebe Crosby
