BIRTHDAY CARD
I came up with this idea to honor the birth of a co-worker and friend's new child, remembering his comment about liking tigers a few months earlier.  I chose to use this tiger pattern, by Joseph Preston of JO-LI Creations for the tiger pattern. Note the "coming right at you" stance of the tiger, the same pattern is used on the tiger on plaque pattern.
The piece was done in two layers.  The scroll worked layer was cut out of a piece of Book Matched Apricot Wood, while the plaque backing is made from Book Matched Juniper Wood.  The overall size of the inscription piece is roughly 9" high x   6 1/4" wide x 3/16" thick, while the plaque backing is roughly 14" high x 9" high x 3/16" thick.
I chose to leave a large reveal at the top and bottom, to show the character of the juniper. At the top are two knots, which symbolize the parents looking upon their child, and the bottom was just interesting due to the black stripe. It was my choice for the tiger for various reasons, nothing of import, but wouldn't it be neat if he was to grow up and be a "coming right at you" tiger. I know his dad would think so!
